We are supported by a team of dedicated volunteers - from our Board of Trustees to volunteer Legal Advisers; each volunteer is crucial to the operations of North East Law Centre!
Why the North East Law Centre needs volunteers.
Legal Aid cuts have led to considerable justice gaps across society and in our communities. A consequence of this is that many people who need to access legal advice and services are left unsupported.
The North East Law Centre provides free services across several areas of law, to as many people as possible. Our volunteers enable us to increase the provision of our services, and access to justice across our communities.
Without our volunteers we wouldn't be able to offer the range of support that we do.
Volunteering Roles
General Law Centre Volunteers
We are not currently recruiting in this area.
However, we are currently reviewing our future requirements in this area and will publish them on our website shortly. In the meantime those looking to volunteer in this category should continue to visit our Vacancies page periodically.
Legal Professionals
We are actively looking to recruit a number of volunteer lawyers who are willing to assist with our pro-bono projects in Newcastle and the North East. We have a range of projects covering a wide variety of categories of law including Criminal Law, Education, Employment Law, Family Law, Immigration Law, and Welfare Benefits.
However, we welcome enquiries from anyone looking to support in any area of law. Quick enquires and contact can be placed here.
Management Committee Volunteer
Our Trustees are volunteers who give a few hours a month to support the strategic development of the Centre.
From time to time we advertise vacancies on the Board for new Trustees with particular skill sets.
We are currently looking to recruit a a new Trustee with marketing experience or a background in a profession that can help inform this part of our strategy.
Why volunteer?
When you’re giving your time, skills and services, you deserve to get something back. Most of our volunteers have specific reasons for what they do – some of the biggest reasons include:
Gaining new skills
Volunteering can be a fantastic way to learn and develop new skills, both practically and personally.
Making new friends
Volunteering reconnects you with your community and helps create new friendships. For a organisation like ours, community and connection are really important.
Mental and physical health and wellbeing
We all know that keeping active, mentally as well as physically, has a powerful and positive impact over our health and wellbeing.
Improving your confidence
Sometimes life can knock your confidence, for example losing a job or needing extended time off work. Sometimes people are just a little shy and want to improve their personal skills.
Volunteering gives you a chance to find your feet in your own time and at your own pace, allowing you to build your confidence in a way that works for you.
Maybe you’ve benefited from volunteering services at some time in your life, or you’ve recently had first-hand experience of the support offered through volunteering. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to ‘pay it forward’ or to give something back, and no two days are the same at the North East Law Centre!
